Sensitivity Reading

So, you finished you’re work but you’re worried about misrepresentation. You want to be inclusive and diverse, but don’t want to cause harm with your impact. My sensitivity services may be able to help.

As your Sensitivity Reader, I will:

• Identify problematic areas

• Provide empathetic but honest feedback

• Identify tropes, stereotypes, and clichés

• Check that your marginalized characters and their experiences are fully explored and multi-dimensional.

• Provide a 1-3 page report of all my findings

Areas I Sensitivity Read for based on lived experience and expertise:

• Asian, Indigenous, and Multiracial* (Filipina/Native Hawaiian/white) identity

• Interracial dating/marriage

• Autism

• Asexuality

• Depression/Anxiety

• Chronic illness

• Chronic pain

• Partner to person with chronic illness

• Partner to a person with Neurodivergence (specifically ADHD)

• Partner to a person who has been suddenly disabled (accident)

• Monsters*

*As an autistic person, monsters are a special interest of mine. I know a lot of the history surrounding monsters, particularly when it comes to coding monsters as racial stereotypes. If this is something you’d like to avoid, I can read for monsters in the following genres: fantasy, fantasy romance, monster romance, horror, and horror romance.

Sensitivity Reading Rates*

My base rates for sensitivity reading are below.

50,000 or less: $ .007 per word (approximately 2-3 week turnaround time)

50,000-100,000: $ .006 per word (approximately 4-5 week turnaround time)

100,000-200,000: $ .005 per word (approximately 5-7 week turnaround time)

If you’d like comments left within the manuscript itself, add .001 per word to the rates above.

If you’d like extensive trigger warnings pulled and organized by frequency, add .001 per word to the rates above.

If you’d like your report faster than the approximate turnaround time, add .002 per word to the rates above.

*PLEASE NOTE: Due to the level of skill and emotional labor involved, some work, depending on genre or content, may be handled on a case-by-case basis.
